Lent
Dear Parishioners,
Lent is the Church's sacred springtime. This is our time to turn toward God's renewing compassion as surely as the earth turns toward the sun. "A Clean Heart Create For Me." These words from Psalm 51, which we pray on Ash Wednesday, set the tempo for this season of hope and new life. Lent is a journey of conversion, a passage of a people who have been forever marked by the story's end...by Jesus' passion, death and resurrection.
The liturgies during Lent are designed to remind us that the paschal mystery is the centerpiece of the Church's existence and the soul of our Christian faith. This animation sparks us to move beyond words into deeds. This is why we take upon ourselves the Lenten discipline (prayer, fasting, charitable works), not to punish ourselves, not to recognize personal failure, but rather to nurture a more compassionate and empathetic posture toward others ...especially the most disadvantaged dwelling in our midst.
As we enter upon these forty days, let us pray that we will strive to rid ourselves of the hidden corruption of sin, so that we may arrive at the joy of Easter renewed in the image of the glorified, Risen Christ.
Peace,
Father Ed
May the Peace of Christ be with You
