Dear Family of Corpus Christi,

My heartfelt thanks to everyone for your help in planning, decorating and celebrating the events of our past Advent and Christmas seasons.  Your generous response to the Giving Tree was very much appreciated by all of the recipients, young and old, alike.  Our Christian Service Committee has helped many people and families in the area that are in distress. May God bless you for your generous donations to this charity.

On another note, while thanking you for your generosity I must bring to your attention two areas of concern. First, The Evangelist is the official publication of the Diocese of Albany and is published 48 times a year. Bishop Hubbard desires that every Catholic family be subscribed as this is a valuable tool for Catholic education and faith formation. Last year our collection for The Evangelist totaled $1,943. Last week’s collection totaled just $1,441! The expense to our parish exceeds $31,000 per year!

Secondly, our Annual Bishop’s Appeal, which has received accolades throughout the diocese for most successfully exceeding its goals, is coming to a close for all who have most generously given a pledge for a certain amount. Of the 489 families participating, 86 still have balances remaining in the amount of just over $15,000. Rita Harfield is diligently updating the data records with the diocese. We are earnestly in need of all pledges being honored so that we can once again exceed our goal and receive a portion of our overage. We are counting on this to help us decrease our past outstanding debts.

Our many ministries are busy making brochures that describe their services and opportunities. You will be hearing them speak at our masses as they reach out to invite you to join them. A very special welcome to all of our new parishioners. Please know that we are blessed by your presence. We invite you share your time and talents with your new parish family in whatever way you feel the Lord calling you.

On behalf of our staff and myself, I would like to wish you all a blessed and healthy New Year as we prepare to celebrate our Lenten parish retreat, Living the Eucharist.

Yours in Christ,

Father Jim
