If my 10th grader did not participate in the 9th grade
program and/or did not complete their service hours, can s/he still be
confirmed this year?
In most cases, yes. You must contact Eileen Earle in the Faith
Formation office to make arrangements to complete both 9th grade
preparation and 10th grade immediate preparation. This process is not
uncommon and has been completed by students in prior years in time to
Q:If my child attends a Catholic school, is s/he still required to attend these classes and retreats.
Yes. The second year of Confirmation classes is for Immediate
Preparation. The Immediate Preparation is to provide for full, conscious
and active participation in the life, mission and work of the Catholic
faith community. As such, this does not fall under the responsibility of
school and is not provided for at school.
Q: If my child took the Respect and Relationships class in 9th grade, does s/he need to take it again in 10th grade.
No. The Respect and Relationship class is required only one time. If
your child attends a Catholic High School s/he does not need to take
this class, as the class is given in school.
Q: Is it possible for a parent to be the sponsor of their child?
No. A parent can not be a sponsor, but they can be a Proxy for the
sponsor, if the sponsor is unable to attend the celebration of the
Sacrament of Confirmation.
