Matthew 5:14-15 “14 You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.”
Christ’s Light is meant for ALL IN THE HOUSE, inclusive of handicapped members of our church. Handicapped persons have the Light of Christ within them and can be a unique beacon from which Christ’s light shines for the entire church. They should not be left under a basket, but recognized for their unique light and placed on a stand.
Are you a family with a developmentally delayed child? Or a child with a learning disability or AHDH? Do you know a child with an IEP or 504 plan?
We have a catechist on “staff” who is a certified Special Education teacher, who can work together with you to plan an individualized faith formation and/or sacramental preparation program that meets your goals and desires for your child. By discussing your experience of your child’s strengths and learning style, along with your child’s education plan at school or any other documentation that you care to share, a caring and unique plan that is just right for your student can be created.
We seek to determine new and caring ways to meet the needs of these wonderful beacons of God’s love and light and to more closely involve them in our parish community. We also seek, for advise and participation, anyone with any kind of experience serving people who are handicapped, whether cognitively or physically.
Please call Eileen Earle in the Faith Formation office (877-8506 ext. 373), if you would like to arrange a meeting to discuss your child’s special needs, or if you simply have ideas, or concerns you would like to share, if you have expertise you’d like to share, or if you would like to get involved. A phone call may be all we need from you, but we’d like to hear from everyone!
